Innovation
at the service of craftsmanship
The roofer’s trade has always relied on precise gestures, passed down from generation to generation, which form the wealth of an age-old know-how, inherited from a long tradition. But it does not exist outside of time. In every era, craftsmen have known how to integrate new tools, new techniques, and new materials. Today, innovation once again finds its place on rooftops—not to replace, but to support. New safety equipment, more efficient and ergonomic machinery and tools, integrated photovoltaic modules, more effective insulation solutions, digital tools for project planning and monitoring, inspection drones, 3D surveying software…
These advances are far from secondary. They respond to concrete needs: saving time, reducing physical strain, improving precision in interventions, ensuring safety when working at heights… And they naturally become part of roofers’ daily work, just as technical progress did for past generations. Because in essence, innovation in roofing is not a rupture. It adapts to the realities of the field, fitting into the craft without altering its nature. A tile remains a tile, a slate remains a slate. What changes are the performance of the products used, the way they are applied, prepared, enhanced, and sometimes even monitored after installation thanks to connected tools.
This movement also opens new perspectives for knowledge transfer. Younger generations, more familiar with digital technologies, find a natural ground for expression, while the elders pass on their mastery of traditional craftsmanship. Both enrich each other, and it is from this complementarity that today’s professional dynamic emerges. Innovation does not erase tradition; it becomes its continuation. It supports gestures, facilitates training, adds value to the artisan’s work, and helps meet tomorrow’s great challenges: energy performance, enhanced safety, adaptation to the expectations of clients increasingly sensitive to sustainable solutions. It is in this context that the future of the trade is being written today—a future where the roofer remains master of his craft, but better equipped.
To this end, the Toiture Magazine team invites you to the Artibat trade fair, from October 22 to 24 at the Parc des Expositions in Rennes, to discover all the new features of this fall 2025 !
